During the time of the Soviet regime, the troupes of amateur performances started to prosper. They were funded by the large enterprises. The two big enterprises of Salacgriva town were – kolkhoz Brivais Vilnis (Latvian – Free Wave) and the canning factory of Salacgriva. They funded the dance troupes of all age groups. The members of the dance troupes performed on the stage of the culture house, in the open air on the historical castle mound, on the open-air stage in Zvejnieku Parks (Latvian the Park of Fishermen) and on the open-air stage in Vecsalaca. The troupes also went on tours to other Vidzeme towns. The greatest and the most significant event was Song and Dance Festival in Riga.
Thanks to the kolkhoz Brivais Vilnis (Latvian – Free Wave) and the newly built Culture House, children ballet studio lead by Ilona Kalnina started to develop. Many young dancers grew in Salacgriva town while attending the studio since the second half of the 1960’s.
