During the time of the Soviet regime, the troupes of amateur performances started to prosper. They were funded by the large enterprises. The two big enterprises of Salacgriva town were – kolkhoz Brivais Vilnis (Latvian – Free Wave) and the canning factory of Salacgriva.

1958 – the establishment of the mixed choir Kaija (Latvian: A Seagull). The first conductor of the choir – Peteris Melnis.

1968 – the establishment of the Brass Orchestra Enkurs (Latvian: Anchor). The conductor of the choir – Peteris Melnis.

1988 – the establishment of the folklore group Cielava (Latvian: Wagtail).
